Game Tools Programmer

Spellborn NV is a computer games company residing in the Netherlands. Growing from a mid-range internet company to top of the Dutch games industry. Together with more than 40 colleagues we currently develop an on line game project called ‘The Chronicles of Spellborn’.


The Chronicles of Spellborn
The Chronicles of Spellborn (TCoS) is an MMO under development by Spellborn NV using the renowned Unreal® Engine™. Players take the role of heroes in a post-apocalyptic fantasy setting where a vast adventure unfolds in an authentic living world.

We are always looking for software engineers to come to our aid and help us improve our game even more. We develop most of our systems using the C++ programming language in combination with STL and a host of custom API's. Details and job requirements
• expert in C++;
• 2+ years experience in the games industry;
• worked on at least one launched title;
• strong computer program development skills (experience in a large variety of system development projects);
• experience with the Win32 API
• experience with custom APIs and game engine(s);
• bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field;
• experience in identifying bugs, bottlenecks and optimizing existing / future code;
• must work well both independently and in a team environment, and be open to direction and critique;
• must be able to work under tight schedules and reliably meet milestones;
• excellent written and verbal communication skills (English language);
• exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills;
• must live in or relocate to the vicinity of The Hague, The Netherlands.

Desirable skills & experience
• experience using the Visual Studio development environment;
• experience in converting functional designs into technical designs and actual implementations;
• experience with the Unreal engine and/or editor
• ability to remain current on all aspects of cutting edge programming as it relates to the video game industry;
• passionate about making and playing games.

Responsibilities
• you will work alongside others, designing, developing and improving our game development tools & our tool chain.
• work side by side with designers, artists and non-technical staff, developing new features or helping them take advantage of newly added features and tools.
• work on bug hunting, performance measurement and optimization;
• document designs and code developed;
• participate in planning and scheduling;
• perform code reviews.

Location
The Spellborn studio is located in The Hague, a pleasant newly build office at only a couple of steps from the beach, in the vicinity of cozy restaurants and pubs.
